20 or so holiday questions with no good answers
As a developer of feature-rich registration management software, we get a lot of questions about how the system works. We usually have fast answers. In honor of the holidays, however, we have collected and curated some holiday questions that are much tougher. We list them here:
- Let’s say you’ve eaten all the good pieces from a box of chocolates. When is it not okay to re-gift what’s left?
- And when did “gift” take the place of “give” as a verb?
- Is there really anything wrong with buying cookies at a bakery and then putting them on your own platter before going to a party?
- Who wouldn’t want a framed picture of a co-worker at the office gift exchange?
- How old do you have to be before it gets weird that your Mom still gives you underwear?
- My older brother kicked me out of our bedroom so he could play with the Hot Wheels set he planned to give me for Christmas. He broke it but gave it to me anyway. Is 30 years too long to hold a grudge?
- Why do we call them live trees when they’ve been chopped down?
- Isn’t a hewn spruce the exact opposite of “live?”
- Why do we call the other trees artificial when they’re real? Isn’t plastic real?
- The U.S. alone spends half a billion dollars a year on Philadelphia cream cheese. Is all but three dollars of that amount spent in December?
- Why is brie such a big thing this time of year?
- If eggnog is served cold, why doesn’t anyone offer it at summer barbecues?
- Wouldn’t a pitcher of it fit nicely next to the deviled eggs?
- Based on all the cheese and egg consumption each December, are cardiologists barred from taking time off in January?
- Tinsel on a Christmas tree is acceptable, but why do people look at you strangely when you drape your goldfish in it?
- If Santa slides down dirty chimneys all night long, why does he wear a coat with white piping?
- Is it acceptable to throw away the ornament your child’s pre-school teacher gave him ten years ago?
- Has anyone ever bought a new gift bag?
- Does anyone else like the Grinch better before he goes soft?
- Does the same person write all the screenplays for Hallmark Christmas movies?
