Stripe goes big by going simple
Learning Stream partners with many payment gateways and all-in-one processors, including Authorize.net and PayPal. You can read more about some of the most popular ones here. Each one tackles the payment processing puzzle a little differently, and each one brings a little something different to the table. But each integrates with our class registration software. Once you have an account with one of our payment partners, it’s usually as simple as entering a few bits of information to connect Learning Stream to them.
However, the process of figuring out what you need to do to begin collecting payments for your businesses can be confusing and time-consuming. Depending on which direction you go, just completing the paperwork for a merchant account takes time. It can feel like you’re giving the merchant services provider just about everything except for a blood sample and your fingerprints.
That’s what two young brothers from Ireland were thinking when they introduced Stripe, and all-in-one processor, in 2011. By writing a few lines of code, John and Patrick Collison thought they could simplify the credit card process for businesses. It looks like they succeeded, because Stripe has some big names behind it. In fact, early big-money investors include Peter Thiel and Elon Musk, who were two of the guys behind PayPal in its beginning.
Though many processors have their feet in both the concrete and the digital worlds, Stripe is for online transactions, and its pricing is straightforward. Even if you are not familiar with Stripe, there’s a good chance at least one or two online transactions you made recently have gone through the processor, which claims to handle billions of dollars in transactions each year. Stripe boasts relationships with huge companies, including Amazon, but it also is proving popular much smaller organizations, including startups.
Learning Stream integrates with Stripe. Though it may be a good fit for organizations of any size, Stripe may be a particularly good fit for any small or new organization seeking to manage class registrations online.
